Lip Line Fillers at Ocean Drive Med Spa

The dreaded smoker's lines. Most people that we are lucky enough to meet really, really dislike the vertical lines that develop over time. These vertical lines are not your fault. Everybody gets them, not just smokers or people who use straws. While smoking and continuous puckering can worsen these lines, these lines are not exclusive to those populations. Fortunately, with advanced lip line fillers Vero Beach patients can effectively address and soften these bothersome vertical lines, helping you achieve smoother, more youthful lips.

What are Lip Line Fillers?

Kiss Lip Lines Goodbye

In a general sense, the muscle around your lip is called the orbicularis oris muscle. This muscle is a sphincteric muscle, which means it contracts in a circular type pattern. This structure is what allows you to increase or decrease the size of your lips while eating, talking, kissing, you name it. The liability of the muscle structure is that it's very thin and that it has to connect to the skin by inserting into the deep dermis. At our practice in Vero Beach Lip line fillers are precisely designed to target and rejuvenate this delicate muscle and dermal connection, helping to smooth out and refine the appearance of those unwanted lines.

As we age, the areas where the muscle inserts into the skin tend to get the most amount of wear and tear. This “wear and tear” from normal usage creates collagen loss throughout the area, but the collagen loss is greatest at the points where the muscle inserts into the inside of your skin. Lip line fillers play a crucial role in rejuvenating this collagen-depleted region, restoring a smoother and more youthful appearance to your lips.

Also, these insertions are a line, and they are vertical. This anatomic structuring is why we will all develop lip lines as we age. It's not because of smoking or using a straw. Everybody will get them at some level. Lip line fillers are designed to address these inevitable lip lines, helping to minimize their appearance and restore smoother, more youthful-looking lips.

While these lines will get us all, there are things that will make them worse. In a general sense, anything that causes a reduction of skin collagen or increased movement to the perioral area will make these lines deeper:

  • Tobacco use (Cigarettes, Cigars, Cannabis, etc.)
  • Excessive sipping (aka people who slurp their coffee at tectonic rates)
  • Excessive use of straws
  • Sun exposure (collagen loss)
  • Scleroderma and other autoimmune skin disorders that reduce collagen production

How Can I Treat Lip Lines?

Contrary to what you may think, you do NOT need to get a bigger lip to hide these lip lines. Rather, you can easily erase the lip lines with a dermal filler injection, such as lip line fillers, that is designed only to remove superficial or mid-sized wrinkles. There are two specific products that will remove the lip lines without changing your lip. One is called Belotero Balance, and one is called Redensity. Both of these fillers are outstanding therapies for patients who like their lips but want the lip lines gone.

Belotero

Belotero Balance has been a mainstay of lip line therapy since its introduction in 2011. At Ocean Drive®, we call Belotero “Human Happiness in an Orange Box.” This Lip Line Filler is outstanding at treating laceration scars, deep inset forehead lines, and lip lines. Results are instantaneous and can last up to one year. Also, for patients who receive Belotero over time, there is a clear long-term benefit to the skin texture.

Redensity®

Redensity® is a newer filler that was released by Revance Therapeutics®. This Lip Line Filler is a touch softer than Belotero, and we use it mostly in superficial lip lines rather than the deeper ones. This filler, similar to Belotero, only removes wrinkles. It does not give any plumpness to the area treated.
